I’m officially the owner of a used bicycle that I purchased from someone on Ecuentra24!

I enjoy riding bikes but I have been hesitant to purchase one in Panama City because the only place to really safely ride one is at Cinta Costera or the Amador Causeway so I used to rent one whenever I would go there. With the announcement of the Ciclovia bike lane every Sunday it finally gave me a reason to purchase a bike.

5SecondsAppI did the Ciclovia for the first time this past Sunday and I am so glad this initiate has started in Panama. I live in San Francisco so I was able to hop on the Ciclovia lane on Cincuentenario and I went all they to Chorillo. It was well organized with plenty of traffic officers and there was also a complimentary hydration point on Cinta Costera.

It honestly kind of felt unreal to be able to ride a bicycle on the streets of Panama and I hope this is a glimpse into the future of better things to come with bicycle use here. Maybe someday we will have real bike lanes!

You can check out the Ciclovia for yourself every Sunday from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm. The route goes from Panama Viejo to Cinta Costera and onto the new viaduct to Cinta Costera 3. If you don’t have a bike I noticed rentals available at the hydration point on Cinta Costera or you can run / walk on the Ciclovia lane as well.

  1. Perfect! You will get to use it a lot then. I think the closest bike place is Rali and its on Avenida Balboa near Multicentro

  2. Joey Bonura Awesome! Thanks. I'm moving there so I'm gonna bring it. And I'm by Parque Urraca so right by the Cinta Costera as well. And suggestions on bike shops? Can't find any online…

  3. Hi Austin, Depends on a few factors. If you live near Avenida Balboa you could use your bike everyday because the Cinta Costera park is right in front of that. But if you live anywhere else in the city you probably won't get much use out of it. I live in the San Francisco area so I can only use my bike on Sundays when they open the ciclovia lane. They also have free bikes available to rent every Sunday during the ciclovia you could use as well. If you are only going to be here for a few months I would stick with renting bikes but if you are here for a year or more it would be good to bring yours. And yes there are a few bike shops that do tuning.

  4. Joey, I'm moving to Panama City in a couple months and was going to bring my fixie/single speed with me. You think it's a good idea, as in I will get the change to ride it much? Also, are there any bike shops around where I can get it tuned up? Thanks
