If you live in Panama or have traveled there before you’ve probably heard of Casco Antiguo Spanish School. The top-rated (with 150+ positive reviews on TripAdvisor) language school has been offering 1 on 1 and group Spanish courses in Panama City’s Historic Old Town for close to a decade. Started by a former US Peace Corps Volunteer, this social enterprise gives back to the community by donating a percentage of sales to local afterschool programs for at-risk youth, organizing volunteering placements for its students, and supporting local families with homestays where 100% of the money goes to the family.

Given the current global health crisis, the school has been forced to close its doors and move all of its classes online. They’re now offering the same high quality 1 on 1 classes taught by their incredible teachers at all-time lowest prices. In order to support their staff, 100% of the money paid for the online classes will go towards teacher salaries. It’s one way the school is helping its staff during a difficult time.

How does it work?

First, send a message to and you’ll receive a placement exam to figure out your current level. If you’re a total beginner no need but as the school has 9 levels (Beginner 1,2,3, Intermediate 1,2,3, and Advanced 1,2,3) so knowing your level will help your teacher prepare for your class. Then you schedule the class at day and time that works for you. They have availability from 7 am to 8 pm (Panama time) so I’m sure they can find a time that works for you. Once your class is scheduled, your teacher will be in touch by email to send you material, homework, and anything else you need for the class. They will email you a Zoom invite to the class so you can join the class from the comfort of your computer or phone without having to register or login beforehand. After the class, they will send you a short feedback form to see how it went and make sure the teaching style, format, and teacher are a good fit for you.

Quote’s from Actual Students Having Online Classes:

I have studied at Casco Antiguo Spanish School several times and have used them online. I can compare their courses and lectures to other Spanish schools and without a doubt they are the best at what they do. The school is organized with appropriate material and great instructors.

My instructor was incredibly friendly and made classes interesting, but I always felt like I was improving, not just getting through classes like I did in some language classes in school. After only a week I was better in Spanish than I’d been after an entire semester of another language!

The classes were fun and interesting, covering a wide variety of topics. The teachers and staff regularly requested my feedback and made an effort to tailor the classes to my language level and to my personal interests. My Spanish language abilities improved significantly!

Luis is a really professional instructor. I learned something new in the 1st 15 minutes. After having studied Spanish in a college setting over 3 semesters, I thought I understood structure/grammar fairly well but was given far more clarity in one lesson with Luis.

David Gold, the school’s Founder and Managing Director, says “the response has been incredible, we’ve had students who learned Spanish with us 2-3 years ago reach out to take advantage of the offer.”

Just today, a student from the US wrote to say she has a lot of downtime so would like to take classes online. It’s an incredible way to take advantage of the extra time to learn a new skill or take your Spanish to the next level.
