Uber, the transportation app taking over the world, has just launched in Panama. The app allows you to hail an Uber driver based on your location using your smartphone and then the fare is calculated on distance and time it takes to arrive to your location.  Payments are managed through your stored credit card and you can even split the cost of rides with your friends that also have the app on their phone.

Since I don’t have a car so I always get really excited when Panama has transportation advancements.

I gave it a try today and the service was great! The driver arrived in five minutes in a brand new Toyota sedan. It’s obviously more expensive than hailing a taxi off the street but it’s great for those times when you’re willing to pay extra to have safe, reliable, and fast transportation.

Here is a breakdown of the fare costs that was in the receipt emailed to me (we were stuck in traffic so it was more expensive than normal):

This is the 4th car hailing app to launch in Panama and I have say I am very impressed. Hailing a cab off the street used to be a very frustrating experience. Sometimes I would wave down five cabs and none of them would want to take me. Thanks to these apps there’s no more “No voy” and we have more reliable and safe transportation options.

Sign up for Uber via THIS LINK or enter promo code UBERPTYLIFE to receive a $10 credit of your first ride. You can download the app for iPhone of Android.
