My Stay At Home New Year's

I went home to Louisville, Kentucky during the holidays to see all my family and friends but came back on the 30th to be able to celebrate New Year’s in Panama. On my very last day of being in the states I started to feel a little sick so I loaded up on Vitamin C hoping it would go away by itself. After a day of flying and then working a half day at work the next day, on New Year’s Eve I was feeling horrible with a terrible sore throat and high fever.

I had some friends going to the beach for New Year’s and some staying in the city and I really hadn’t decided what I was going to do yet, but there was no way I was in any condition to do anything. Maybe 3 years ago I would have said “Screw this fever, it’s not going to get in the way of my New Year’s” and stayed out until 4 am, but at 23 I am starting to loose that kind of spunk.

On New Year’s Eve I was pretty drowsy and feverish at 11:30 pm and fighting to stay awake because I wanted to see what kind of firework show Panama City was going to put on for me this year. The fireworks in Panama City on New Year’s is a pretty amazing thing to see. I don’t think there are any regulations so people shoot them off their balconies, roofs, the street – everywhere – and they go on all night..

When the clock struck 12…Panama didn’t disappoint me. I could see fireworks launching into the air simultaneously and exploding just feet away from high rise buildings all over the city, one of them being mine. I have never seen fireworks that up close before and it was pretty amazing. Definitely made up for me staying home alone sick.

The fireworks continued throughout the entire night and finally ended at 7 am. Between that and my dogs barking I didn’t get any sleep and woke up feeling sicker. But it was ok, I am happy that I live in a city that does crazy things like that, it keeps things interesting.
