A recent announcement by the Alcaldía de Panamá has revealed plans to give Panama City a “facelift” beginning this year, with over 20 projects to resurrect the current degrading state of several parts of the city.
The projects are divided into four zones…
Zone 1 (San Felipe and Santa Ana): This will benefit more than 70,000 people and includes plans to improve the historic area of the city, a rehabilitation of the public markets, and improve the booths in Mercado San Felipe Neri and the Mercado de Mariscos. They will also construct new sidewalks, a new sewage system, and new sales booths for Salsipuedes in Santa Ana.
Zone 2 (Curundú, Bella Vista, Calidonia, San Francisco, Pueblo Nuevo and Betania): This includes a new urban design for Calle Uruguay and Via Argentina which will have new sidewalks, green areas, new sewage system, and underground parking.
Zone 3 (Ancón, Chilibre, Las Cumbres, and Alcalde Díaz): This will include the construction of Parque Norte, which will benefit more than 100,000 people in the area.
Zone 4 (Juan Díaz, Las Mañanitas, Pacora, San Martín, Tocumen, Pedregal, and 24 de Diciembre): This will have projects that focus on community integration, social development, green areas, recreation, and the creation of the La Siesta and Robert Kelly sports centers.
Overall the goal of the projects is to make Panama City a more “prosperous, modern, and sustainable” city to live in.
