I attended Saturday’s Kaskade Concert on the rooftop of the Hard Rock Hotel and it was one crazy night!
My friends and I began the night like usual with a pre party at my apartment and listened to some of Kaskade’s mixes to get in the mood. Once we felt prepared enough to go out we called an Uber and headed over to the Hard Rock Hotel. The concert was taking place on the rooftop which I had not been to for a while so I was pumped to be able to return there and see the stunning view of Panama City accompanied by great music and people.
We felt our ears pop heading up to the 62nd floor and the doors opened to a large crowd of people. We then pushed through everyone and finally made it to the bar for a drink.
Meanwhile Tom Sawyer was warming up the decks with some electronic music to get the crowd pumped for what was about to come.
Around 1 AM Kaskade finally came on and the crowd cheered. After a few songs confetti started pouring down and we made our way towards the front to get a better view. After the confetti stopped falling drops of water started to fall and I honestly thought it was part of the concert because the timing of it was so well. But the drops of water grew stronger and then people went WILD!
The rain was pouring hard, the electronic music was intense, and the energy of the crowd was mesmerizing. It was one of those moments in Panama that feel very surreal.

The stage was located on the rooftop of a 62 story building. Oddly enough the design of the DJ booth loosely resembled lightning rods, with 4 large metal truss reaching into the night sky. The place was wall to wall people and I went up on stage for my first ever show in Panama. I opened with “Something Something” while lightning and thunder circled and struck overhead.
It was poetic.
Nobody seemed to be bothered by the lightning or thunder. I knew that these people had waited a LONG time for me to come to their country and I certainly didn’t want to disappoint them. And for sure the locals must know how the weather operates around here more than I do, right?! The storm must look close but actually be farther away than I imagine, right?! Either way, I stopped worrying and enjoyed the beauty of it. Mother Nature has the best light shows!
[adrotate banner=”18″]Twenty-five minutes into my set it started to rain. Thirty minutes into my set it started to pour! The rain only made things more intense. People bouncing around tearing off their clothes and screaming along with the music.
The sound guy begged me to stop and I am sure all the water was messing up his gear. He dragged out a tarp and made an attempt to cover the mixer and CDJ’s that were already soaked but still working. The rain accumulated and pretty soon I was standing in about an inch of water. This is about the time my tour manager screamed, “YOU HAVE TO STOP, YOU’RE STANDING IN A POOL OF WATER OPERATING ELECTRONICS…STOP NOW! STAAAAHHP!”
So I played another one, “Atmosphere”.
I am pretty sure at this point everyone ripped out their eyeballs and threw them on stage and we all sang along together. I don’t remember exactly cause I was lost in the moment. I just remember it being really crazy and jumping up and down splashing in the stagnant water on stage. I ended up playing a few more songs cause I didn’t want it to end, but eventually it did.
Best 45 minutes EVER!!
