Free Medical Insurance for Tourists in Panama

Free medical insurance for tourists is a great way to allow people to travel to Panama with the peace of mind that if anything bad happens, their expenses will be covered. This is a fairly new program that started last year and allows the tourist to receive free medical coverage during their first 30 days in Panama. There are however some restrictions that you must quality for:

-The incident must occur in the first 30 days you are in Panama and you must have entered Panama through the Tocumen Airport.
-The policies cover accidental death, plus hospitalization and medical expenses for injuries due to accidents or diseases contracted in Panama; dental emergency expenses; administrative legal assistance; and lost or stolen documents. Policies do not cover incidents caused by negligence, related to alcohol and drugs, or resulting from participation in extreme sports.
-The incident must occur in the first 30 days you are in Panama and you must have entered Panama through the Tocumen Airport.
-You must bring your passport with you to show the entry stamp.

When you arrive to the airport you can receive a brochure from the information center that has more information about the program. Also, if you do have an emergency you can call 204-9300 and they will let you know where the nearest hospital is and alert the hospital that you will be arriving.

It looks like this is reserved for very extreme situations and wouldn’t cover a
Doctor appointment for a common cold. If you have had experience with this program I would love to hear your experience with using it!
