Ditrani’s: Gourmet Italian Cuisine In Panama City
Located in Panama City’s upscale Obarrio neighborhood, Ditrani’s restaurant brings well-prepared gourmet Italian cuisine with natural ingredients by Chef Simone Trevisan from Padova, Italy.
A few friends and I headed over to Ditrani’s to give it a try and to celebrate a few things. One of my good friends from Nicaragua just returned to Panama that day after being gone for a few months and I had just gotten over a week of food poisoning from street meat in Bocas del Toro so this would be my first good meal!
Wine and Appetizers
We started with a bottle of wine and the Carpaccio de Mero Ahumado (Smoked Grouper Carpaccio) marinated in lemon and olive oil topped with parmesan cheese as well as an order of Arancini, which was made up of fried rice balls stuffed with bolognese sauce and provolone cheese accompanied with pomodoro sauce.
My friends and I loved both appetizers but the carpaccio was the one that really stood out. I’m not usually a huge fan of fish carpaccio but the chef got this one right. The smokey flavor of the grouper combined with the lemon and olive oil was perfect and a dish that I will be craving until my next visit.
The Main Course
So I kind of cheated when I ordered my main course by looking at the user recommended dishes on Degusta, which was the shrimp and scallop risotto in a creamy parmesan sauce. It’s been a good strategy when I’m not sure what to order at a new restaurant.
Our food arrived quickly after ordering and trust me that this is not a restaurant you are going to leave hungry from (I like to eat so this is a constant concern of mine). They served nice big Italian portions and the food is elegantly presented.
My friends and I all took turns trying each other’s food and judging who ordered the best dish. Everyone’s food was super good and each person had their favorite, but I think mine was the best!

Bring On The Desert
We were all absolutely stuffed after appetizers and our main course but we said bring on the desert anyway! We ordered the cheesecake, tiramisu, and salame di cioccolato. They were all superb but the cheesecake was out of this world. We all agreed that it was one of the best ones we have had as we were about to pass out from food coma.
Restaurant service is often a complaint in Panama so when I actually receive top notch service I really notice it. Our waiter at Ditrani’s was attentive, always made sure our water glasses were full, and our food came out quickly. I also liked that the chef came out several times to speak to everyone eating at the restaurant to make sure they liked the food and that everything was going smoothly.
Ditrani’s is a restaurant that you need to visit in Panama City. The quality of the food, ambience, and experience make it the type of place worth going back to. I’m already planning to take my mom there when she comes to visit Panama this March!
