The Cats Of Panama City, One Meow At A Time

You’ve probably heard of Humans of New York, the widely popular Facebook page that highlights photos of the people of that city along with their stories. Underage pregnancies, army deployments, post-secondary education woes, the difficulties of drug addiction—the stories highlight both the mundane and the extraordinary.

But it’s not just the people who have their stories. Over at Cats of Panama City, the street cats of Panama City have a Facebook Page of their own, and they’re telling their own stories, one meow at a time.

The cats of Panama City roam the streets just like us. They look for meals at the fish market. They find shade in abandoned buildings. They congregate with their cat companions along the Cinta Costera. The even present themselves at outdoor bar patios.

These cats are a part of the community in many places. People leave cat food and water out at night for the neighborhood’s feline street walkers. The Rana Dorada brewpub in El Cangrejo even has its own resident patio cat. His menu favorites are the fish sticks and the pale ale.

Then there’s this guy, whose dancing dreams were dashed by his career as a banker…

Or the mother who suspects her husband is hustling on the streets…

This cat burglar got away with a little more than some Kibbles ‘n Bits…

Nothing beats catnaps. Just ask this feline friend…

She’s an expat cat…

Hollywood, here she comes…

This cat’s seen some things, man…

Building your business from the ground up ain’t easy. Especially if you’re a dyslexic dropout cat…

This tough kitty is on guard 24/7…

And finally, these two troublemakers…

If you want to help the cats of Panama, you can volunteer or donate with the nonprofit Spay Panama Foundation.
